Professional Concrete Calculator
Built for Utah’s Contractors and DIYers
At Beaver Construction, we understand that getting the right amount of concrete for your project is critical to success. Whether you're pouring a foundation, building a retaining wall, or constructing a set of stairs, calculating the exact volume and weight of concrete needed can save you time, money, and hassle. Our Concrete Calculators are designed to help you estimate the amount of concrete required for various construction projects, ensuring you order just the right amount—plus a little extra to avoid coming up short.
Concrete Calculators
Standard Assumptions: These calculations use a concrete density of 150 pounds per cubic foot (4,050 pounds per cubic yard).
Bag Recommendations: Results include 10% extra material to account for waste and ensure you don't run short.
Professional Tip: Always verify measurements on-site and consider local building codes and requirements.
Note: For critical structural applications, consult with a structural engineer or concrete professional.

Understanding Concrete: The Basics
Concrete is a composite material made of coarse aggregates—such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, or slag—bonded together with cement. Cement acts as a binding agent, adhering to the aggregates and hardening over time. The most commonly used cement is Portland cement, a key ingredient in concrete, mortar, and plasters.
You can purchase concrete in various forms, such as 60 or 80-pound bags for smaller projects or in large quantities delivered by specialized concrete mixer trucks for bigger jobs. Proper mixing is crucial for strong, uniform concrete, requiring the right balance of water, aggregate, cement, and any additives. Since concrete is typically prepared as a viscous fluid, it must be placed before it hardens. Some concretes are formulated for rapid setting, ideal for time-sensitive applications, while others are mixed into drier forms for precast products like concrete walls in factory settings.
The hardening process, known as curing, is gradual. It takes about four weeks for concrete to reach over 90% of its final strength, with strengthening continuing for up to three years. To enhance early-stage curing, keep the concrete damp using techniques like spraying it with water-retaining compounds or ponding, where the concrete is submerged in water and wrapped in plastic.
